May Agbamuche has taken over as the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the exit of Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
The transition was announced by Professor Yakubu on Tuesday during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners at the INEC headquarters in Abuja. Agbamuche, who now leads the commission in an interim capacity, is the longest-serving National Commissioner at INEC.
In his remarks, Yakubu urged directors and Resident Electoral Commissioners to extend their full support to Agbamuche as she steers the affairs of the commission pending the appointment of a new substantive chairman.
