President Tinubu Approves Reinstatement of Governor Fubara Under Conditions
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has agreed to reinstate the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, following a resolution meeting with key stakeholders held late last night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to The Cable, the governor’s reinstatement comes with four key conditions:
- Completion of Tenure Without Re-Election Bid: Governor Fubara will be allowed to complete his current four-year term but must not contest for a second term in 2027.
- Local Government Appointments: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, will retain the authority to nominate all local government chairpersons across Rivers State’s 23 LGAs.
- Settlement of Lawmakers’ Entitlements: Fubara has reportedly agreed to pay all outstanding entitlements and allowances owed to the 27 lawmakers loyal to Minister Wike, who were previously suspended from the State House of Assembly.
- No Impeachment Moves: As part of the agreement, the lawmakers will refrain from initiating any impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara upon his reinstatement.
The resolution signals a major step toward stabilizing the political climate in Rivers State after months of tension.
