Umahi Commends Otti, Urges Continued Collaboration with FG

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has commended Abia State Governor Alex Otti for his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and support for federal road projects. Umahi made the remarks on Thursday during a visit to Otti’s office, following an inspection of ongoing federal road works in the state, some of which are slated for commissioning by President Bola Tinubu later this year.

Expressing appreciation for the longstanding relationship between President Tinubu and Governor Otti, Umahi emphasized the significance of supporting the President’s efforts in the Southeast.

“We have every reason as Ndigbo and South-Easterners—regardless of political party—to stand with President Tinubu, who is standing with us to rewrite our history and reintegrate the region into the mainstream of national development,” he said.

He praised Otti for his evident support for the President, saying, “You have been the President’s friend even before I met him, and I can boldly say that all Southeast governors are united in their support for him.”

Umahi further lauded the quality of federal road reconstructions carried out by the state government, particularly highlighting the Port Harcourt Road in Aba.

“I came unannounced to inspect projects and was deeply impressed by the quality and scope of your work. What you’ve done on Port Harcourt Road is remarkable. It takes vision and heart to reclaim such a space,” he stated, noting that the President himself would be proud to commission the road during his visit.

He also appealed to Otti to consider intervening in the other carriageway of the Aba–Port Harcourt Expressway.

“Please look into the plight of commuters on the other carriageway. Even if it’s with the same contractor, see what can be done,” Umahi pleaded.

In his response, Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to work hand-in-hand with the Federal Government in delivering people-oriented projects.

“We are committed to partnering with the Federal Government in ways that benefit our people. For us, once the work is done, it doesn’t matter who takes the credit—it’s the people that matter,” Otti said.

He directed the Commissioner for Works to assess the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway section mentioned by Umahi, promising prompt attention.
