My Spirit Has Already Left There” Fubara Responded to Call Reinstate back to office

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed a lack of urgency or desperation to return to office, emphasizing a preference for peace over political conflict. He made this known during a service of songs held on Sunday in Port Harcourt, in honour of the late elder statesman Edwin Clark. The event was organized by the Rivers Elders Forum.

While several speakers at the ceremony referred to Fubara as “Governor” and condemned his suspension—calling for its immediate reversal—Fubara distanced himself from their remarks, describing them as personal opinions that could hinder efforts toward peace.

“Not everything should be approached with aggression,” he cautioned, signaling his inclination toward a more thoughtful and less confrontational resolution to the ongoing political crisis. “Do you even know if I want to go back there? My spirit has already left,” he added, suggesting emotional detachment from the office.

He also expressed concern that some actions by his supporters, though well-meaning, had inadvertently worsened his predicament. Fubara urged attendees to focus on celebrating Edwin Clark’s legacy—a man he described as selfless and committed to the Niger Delta cause—rather than turning the occasion into a political platform.

Fubara, along with his deputy and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, was suspended on March 18 by President Bola Tinubu following a deepening political rift involving Fubara’s former ally and predecessor, Nyesom Wike
