Barcelona reclaim La Liga top spot with dominant 4-1 win over Girona.

Robert Lewandowski scored twice as Barcelona cruised to a 4-1 victory over Girona, moving three points clear at the top of La Liga on Sunday.

After second-placed Real Madrid had temporarily drawn level on points with a win over Leganes on Saturday, Hansi Flick’s side reclaimed their lead at the Olympic Stadium.

Barcelona, now unbeaten in 20 matches this year, took the lead just before halftime through a Ladislav Krejci own goal.

Arnaut Danjuma equalized for Girona early in the second half, but Lewandowski’s brace and a late Ferran Torres strike secured a dominant win.

Girona, who defeated Barcelona twice last season, have struggled to replicate that form and currently sit 13th in the table.

With an upcoming Copa del Rey semi-final against Atletico Madrid, Flick rotated his squad, yet Barcelona still controlled proceedings. However, despite dominating possession, they lacked their usual attacking fluency in the first half.

Teenager Lamine Yamal and the energetic Fermin Lopez provided Barcelona’s main threats. Paulo Gazzaniga denied Lopez on the counter, while Viktor Tsygankov missed Girona’s best early chance.

Gazzaniga made key saves from Lewandowski and Yamal before Yamal’s dangerous free-kick led to Krejci’s own goal.

Girona had created little in the first half but found a response eight minutes after the restart through Danjuma.
