Jubilation as Fed. Poly, Oko, Revives Water Factory to Boost IGR

By Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

The Oko Poly Table Water factory at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, is back in full operation, marking a significant achievement under the leadership of Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie.

Upon assuming office as the 6th substantive rector a month ago, Dr. Awuzie lamented the neglect of the institution’s key internally generated revenue (IGR) sources. She emphasized her administration’s commitment to revitalizing these sources to reduce reliance on federal government funding.

Dormant for years due to logistics and equipment failures, the factory’s revival became one of Dr. Awuzie’s top priorities. She promptly initiated a fact-finding mission to the Department of Food Science and Technology, which oversees the facility.

Her swift intervention led to the restoration of faulty machines and the much-anticipated resumption of potable water production.

Speaking at the official commissioning of the facility yesterday, Dr. Ifegadimma Obarisiagbon, a senior staff member of the Department of Food Science and Technology, expressed profound gratitude to Dr. Awuzie for addressing the long-standing concerns of staff and students by bringing the factory back to life.

He noted that with the facility’s restoration, staff and students can now access table water at a more affordable price compared to market alternatives.

Earlier, Dr. Awuzie reaffirmed that the factory’s revival underscores her administration’s dedication to restoring the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, to its former glory. She expressed optimism for even greater transformations in the institution’s future.
