Peter Obi, Others Escape Plane Crash Scare
Over 100 passengers, including the former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, narrowly escaped a potential plane crash at the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Tuesday.
Obi, who was seated in Economy Class, was aboard Air Peace flight P47123, which departed Abuja at 12:59 p.m.—24 minutes behind its scheduled takeoff time of 12:35 p.m. The flight was due to land in Lagos by 1:55 p.m. but eventually touched down at 2:25 p.m., after what passengers described as a harrowing 30 minutes in the air.
Aviation sources told ghetto news that during the approach, the pilot reportedly lost control temporarily, causing the aircraft to hover and attempt multiple landings. The situation left passengers panicked, fearing the worst.
“It was a terrifying experience,” a passenger recounted. “The plane kept trying to land but had to pull back several times. People were praying, some shouting and casting out demons—it felt like we were about to crash into buildings.”
Another passenger added, “With Peter Obi on board, had the plane crashed, no one would have believed it was just an accident. He remained calm and reassured those around him, telling everyone to stay calm and trust God.”
A mother of two said the ordeal felt like “a battle between life and death,” adding that she almost gave up hope. “Peter Obi’s composure gave many of us strength.”
Also on board was Dr. Benson Onuwaje, a businessman seated in First Class, who reportedly stood up to lead prayers for the safety of everyone on board. “He called on God with boldness and assured us we would land safely,” said Mathew Adekunle, another passenger.
Obi, who recently donated ₦20 million to flood victims in Niger State, had been on a visit to Northern Nigeria before returning to Abuja for a scheduled political meeting. On Tuesday, he flew from Abuja to Lagos for another engagement.
“We thank God we all landed safely. God protected every one of us, including Peter Obi,” a relieved passenger concluded.
