Tinubu Downplays Hunger:
Begins Campaign for 2027
By Polycarp Nwaeke

It had been generally agreed that hunger was ravaging the land and that it’s taking a toll on many Nigerians.
Statistics indicate that out of the two hundred million estimated population, only twenty million or 20 percent of the citizens feed well. This percentage is made up of top politicians /high ranking military officers( 3 percent)who feed fat on corruption and well established business men (17 percent) who can afford three square meals a day and even have excess money to provide for their girlfriends just as politicians do.
Among the 180 million remaining, 20 percent, or 20 million people equally feed three times a day, but with unregulated diets. Some in that group eat mainly carbohydrates which are considered cheap, leaving out other nutrients that makes for a healthy body.
A whooping 160 million, or 60 percent of Nigerians wallows in abject poverty and hunger. Many in that group eat twice or once a day. They fill their belly with all sorts of things called food, which almost always results in sickness and death. A large percentage of people in this group eat once or manage to eat twice a day. Those in this group nickname their eating habits as 010, meaning no food in the morning, food or something like food in the afternoon and no food in the evening. They omit breakfast, eat lunch and do away with dinner. What these people eat can not be called food at all. Some of them soak garri in water and drink it with ground nuts, some take bread with water while many, especially in recent times have resorted to taking roasted corn or cooked corn as their daily diets.Among this group are those who leave their house in the morning to beg for money or food. This reporter had seen a number of them at Oil Mill Market and Artillery in Port Harcourt Rivers State .
This was happening in a country where few politicians and their military collaborators have several designer houses and fleets of exotic cars acquired with stolen money. Under this ravaging poverty/hunger, many of these politicians and military officers still buy cars for their girlfriends and sponsor some of them abroad for sightseeing.
Presently, Tinubu government is not building new factories where unemployed youths can be engaged resulting in massive unemployment and alarming crime rate.
In the midst of this, President Tinubu does not seem to care as he is busy going from one country to another looking for elusive investors.Instead of tackling corruption, power failures and insecurity to pave way for investors to come, the President and his foot soldiers have started campaign for 2027 Presidential elections.Corrupt politicians in opposing political parties looking to evade probe have decamped to his party, the APC and making a case for his reelection in 2027. Recently, the governor of Delta State, the entire executive council and the legislature left the PDP and joined the APC. Few days ago, a highly discredited politician Orji Uzor Kalu campaigned openly in the Senate, calling for Tinubu’s reelection in 2027. In Cross River State, the governor Umoh Eno had signified his intention to support President Tinubu in 2027 and was even mooting the idea of joining the APC. The song in the air across the country was the reelection of President Tinubu in 2027. In Port Harcourt, Rivers State, President Tinubu’s reelection campaign posters were everywhere in the streets and strategic spots. The same scenario obtains I in Owerri , Imo State capital. President Tinubu, an astute politician was allegedly behind the campaigns for his reelection, but pretended he does not support it.
In the midst of these campaigns, the masses who Tinubu has made hopeless with his harsh economic policies have vowed not to vote for him again as they will not be able to endure another 4 years of hunger and hardship. Their vows did not take into account the fact that votes do not count here, as politicians always impose themselves on the people through elections rigging. They chorused that Peter Obi won the 2023 Presidential Election, but was allegedly manipulated by Tinubu. They also condemned the actions of the Supreme Court who affirmed Tinubu President despite the weight of evidence against him.
However, 2027 will be different as the North (Fulani people) were greatly angered by Tinubu’s displacement of their kinsmen in top positions and replacing them with his Yoruba people. They would likely not vote for him again , and may not allow large scale rigging that occurred in 2023 to happen again.
Meanwhile, as the masses continue to endure hunger, President Tinubu has continued his shuttle diplomacy and primitive accumulation of wealth through white elephant projects like the Lagos/ Calabar Coastal Highway which had already gulped trillions of Naira without tangible progress.
