Aircraft Incident at Ilorin International Airport Under Investigation
On Friday, May 23, 2025, a Diamond training aircraft operated by the Aviation Training School in Ilorin crash-landed during a simulated instrument approach at Ilorin International Airport. The incident occurred at approximately 5:28 p.m. local time on Runway 05. The aircraft veered off the runway and came to rest on the grass verge. Both occupants sustained serious injuries and were immediately evacuated to a medical facility, with coordination from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched an investigation into the incident. A Go-Team is being dispatched from Abuja to Ilorin to conduct an on-site assessment. Their tasks will include securing the crash site, collecting physical evidence, interviewing witnesses, and retrieving operational data to identify the cause and any contributing factors.
Captain Alex Badeh Jr., Director General of the NSIB, underscored the critical role of the investigation in advancing aviation safety. He also urged the public to avoid speculation and await the release of official findings.
