Action Collective Urges Senate President Akpabio to Address Concerns Raised by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan
A political advocacy group, Action Collective, has called on the President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, to directly respond to concerns raised by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central regarding her right to speak on the Senate floor.
In a statement issued on Sunday, March 30, 2025, and signed by its National Coordinator, Mr. Teddy Onyejuwe, the group stressed that the matter cannot be ignored, as both Nigerians and the international community are closely watching developments.
Action Collective criticized what it described as attempts to shift focus from the core issue by engaging in political maneuvering, insisting that the Senate President must provide a clear and direct response rather than using his position to suppress dissenting voices.
“The claim by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan that she was denied the opportunity to speak in the Senate is deeply troubling. Any attempt to silence a female legislator would set a dangerous precedent,” Onyejuwe stated. “Nigerians and the world are watching. The Senate must handle this matter with the seriousness it deserves rather than diverting attention.”
The group urged the Senate leadership to ensure transparency and fairness in addressing the issue, warning that any perceived suppression of voices could undermine the institution’s credibility. It also called on human rights groups, civil society organizations, and international observers to remain vigilant and demand accountability from Nigeria’s legislative leadership.
With mounting public scrutiny and pressure, the controversy has heightened tensions within the Senate. Action Collective emphasized that the issue transcends politics, warning that the credibility of the Senate and Nigeria’s commitment to justice and gender equality are now on the line.
