The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Rivers State chapter, Tony Okocha has alleged that President Tinubu’s declaration of state of emergency in Rivers State has saved the people from anarchy.
Okocha made the assertion while speaking to journalists on Thursday March27, 2025 at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
According to him, the declaration of state of emergency was a necessary evil that saved Rivers State from a total state of anarchy.
He said: “Mr. President’s decision was a necessary evil, and whether the impeachment of Governor Siminalaya Fubara or his suspension , as it were today, will be the only thing that will bring peace in Rivers State.”
He stressed that 90 percent of the political imbroglio in the state had been solved with the declaration, while accusing Fubara of being at the epicenter of the trouble.
Speaking further, the Rivers State APC Chairman said: “Before the state of emergency declared by Mr. President, we were living in fear because non state actors had begun brandishing dangerous weapons and making statements tilting towards anarchy and lawlessness, which is why the state of emergency called by Mr President saved Rivers State from anarchy.”
Okocha claimed that certain people brought dangerous ethnic politics into the Rivers problem, stressing that those people who were playing the ethnic card aggravated the situation which culminated in the political tension in the state.
He further claimed that the former Governor Nyesom Wike was the epicenter of peace in the state in contrast to what the people he described as ethnic jingoists were telling Nigerians.

“If bringing him to the fray is because he is the leader of that political structure, then you may be right, This is because the 32 state assembly members were produced and sponsored by the former governor of Rivers State, now Honorable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory,” while stressing that the suspended governor Fubara was the weakest political investment ever made.
“What happens to you when you have made an investment? Should you allow the investment to fly away or explode?
“And in politics, I am talking about even in economics, in politics it’s heavy, if not impossible, for someone to allow you to dismantle his political structure.”
The Rivers State APC Chairman cautioned those calling for Wike’s suspension, saying,”they are not getting the point right,” as according to him Wike had been at the epicenter of peace in the state.
Okocha declared that with the state of emergency and professionalism the state Administrator has brought, he could now move around Port Harcourt, which he said would have been impossible.
“I would have gone to get a bomb proof and drive with bomb proof on the roads of Port Harcourt,” he claimed.
