Governor Fubara Urges Peace Amid Political Tensions in Rivers State
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
In a statement issued Tuesday night, Governor Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and the progress of Rivers State. He assured citizens that his government would work with relevant institutions to ensure stability and protect democratic principles.
“Since assuming office, my actions and decisions have been guided by my constitutional oath and a deep sense of duty,” Fubara stated. “Our priorities have always been the protection of lives and property, as well as the continuous progress of our state.”
He emphasized his administration’s efforts to maintain peace despite political challenges. Fubara highlighted his government’s commitment to implementing peace agreements brokered by President Tinubu, including the reinstatement of commissioners who had previously resigned.
“Immediately after Mr. President’s intervention, we implemented the agreed terms in good faith. We also swiftly complied with the Supreme Court’s judgment to restore normalcy—not for personal gain, but to foster peace, unity, and stability in our state,” he said.

However, the Governor expressed frustration over what he described as persistent obstruction by the Rivers State House of Assembly, which he claimed had hindered efforts to achieve genuine peace and progress.
Despite political disagreements, Fubara assured citizens that governance remained on track, with salaries paid, projects executed, and security maintained.
“I urge all Rivers people to remain peaceful and law-abiding. We will continue engaging with all relevant institutions to uphold democracy and ensure the continued progress of our state,” he added.
