At least six people lost their lives near Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, after a trailer crashed into stationary vehicles and caught fire, police reported on Wednesday.
According to a statement from the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, the accident occurred on a highway near the Nyanya Bridge in Ayo, approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles) from Abuja. The trailer, loaded with cement, lost control and plowed into 14 vehicles that were stuck in traffic, leading to a devastating collision.
The statement read, “The impact set fourteen vehicles ablaze in a fierce inferno, causing panic and chaos as bystanders and motorists frantically sought safety.”
According to the police, six victims were rescued from the wreckage and transported to the hospital, where medical personnel later confirmed their deaths.
