Wike Criticizes Fubara’s Approach to Rivers State Political Crisis
Former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has criticized Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s handling of the ongoing political crisis in the state. According to Wike, Fubara is more focused on public perception than making real efforts to restore peace.
In a video shared by TVC News, Wike argued that if Fubara was genuinely committed to resolving the crisis, he would have personally engaged with the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly instead of merely sending an official letter. Drawing a comparison to federal politics, Wike pointed out that a Secretary to the Government would never directly write to the Senate President or the Speaker of the House of Representatives about the President’s plans. Instead, personal discussions would take place to facilitate cooperation.
Wike emphasized the importance of direct communication in politics, stating that Fubara should have called the Speaker and arranged a meeting instead of relying on formal correspondence. Reflecting on his own time in office, Wike noted that he never relied solely on letters but would personally reach out to key figures to discuss and agree on the best course of action.
He further stated that Fubara’s approach suggests he is more interested in appearing sincere to the public rather than truly fostering peace. According to Wike, effective leadership requires building relationships and solving issues through direct engagement, not just official paperwork. In his words: “Mr. Speaker, where are you? Are you at home? Can we talk and agree on something?”
For Wike, this is the proper way to lead and bring lasting peace to Rivers State.
