Lookman Emerges as Highest-Rated Player in Serie A

Nigeria and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has emerged as the highest-rated player in Italy’s Serie A this season, surpassing some of the league’s biggest stars.

With 29 rounds of matches completed, Lookman tops the WhoScored performance charts with an impressive rating of 7.37.

His exceptional displays have seen him outperform Inter Milan’s in-form duo, Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martínez, along with other key players from Juventus, AC Milan, and AS Roma.

Despite playing in only 23 games this season, Lookman’s consistency has been unparalleled. He has scored 13 goals and provided 5 assists, while averaging 2.1 key passes per game — the highest in the division. Inter Milan’s Thuram, with 13 goals and 4 assists, follows closely behind Lookman with a rating of 7.29. Martínez, also from Inter Milan, shares third place with Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui, the league’s top scorer with 22 goals, both rated at 7.22.

Inter Milan’s Hakan Çalhanoğlu (7.19) completes the top five, while Como’s Nico Paz (7.18), Lazio’s Mattia Zaccagni (7.17), AS Roma’s Alexis Saelemaekers (7.11), AC Milan’s Rafael Leão (7.11), and Fiorentina’s Moise Kean (7.09) round out the top 10.

Since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in August 2022, Lookman has quickly become one of Serie A’s most consistent performers. He has now played 85 league matches, netting 37 goals and providing 18 assists.

Lookman’s time in Italy has been defined by both personal achievements and team success. After finishing as a Coppa Italia runner-up early in his Atalanta career, he played a key role in the club’s historic UEFA Europa League triumph last season, helping secure Atalanta’s first-ever European title.

On the international stage, Lookman has made an impact with Nigeria, playing a pivotal role in their run to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final.

His exceptional performances earned him the prestigious CAF African Player of the Year award, making him the sixth Nigerian to win the honor and the first to claim the award after switching national teams from England to Nigeria.
